bring about awareness within our parish of issues involving the
legal and social fabric by which we live and are governed. Our
goal is to restore, through a fully informed people, a sense of
civility and responsibility in our communities.

The bishops have not taken a position on either of the 2 initiatives on the California primary ballot, but ask that you prayerfully consider your vote in light of Catholic teaching. Where to find material on judicial candidates? The Los Angeles County Bar Association provides information on which candidates are qualified and gives links to LA Times, Met News and League of Women Voters recommendations.

The purpose of this statewide event is to convene representatives of all who are involved with or affected by California’s current criminal justice system in dialogue about the realignment of our criminal justice system, court mandates to reduce the state prison population, and our shared responsibility to respond to this opportunity to address improvements in our communities.

California Senate Bill 9, the bill that would set up a process for individuals convicted as juveniles to life without the possibility of parole to have their sentences reviewed, may be voted on in the Assembly as early as February 13, 2012.
