211 Social Services
for ALL

What kinds of social services? Assistance is available from employment, food pantries, and help for an aging parent, addiction prevention programs for their teenage children, affordable housing options, support groups and ways of becoming part of their community. 2-1-1 allows people to give help and to get help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; it connects people with important community services as well as volunteer opportunities. Best of all, 2-1-1 is an easy to remember telephone number. Start using it today!

2-1-1 plays a key role in public safety:
• 2-1-1 relieves 911 call volume, allowing for faster response to real emergencies and cost savings.
• 2-1-1 plays a major role in disaster response. 2-1-1 proved effective after the 9/11 terrorist attacks where 2-1-1 Connecticut received 95 percent of all calls for mental health counseling, volunteering, and other services. New York did not have 2-1-1 and 400 new information lines were created resulting in confusion and a waste of precious resources.

While available now throughout all of southern California, 2-1-1 California is committed to making 2-1-1 available to all California residents by 2010. 2-1-1 California is a collaborative effort between CAIRS and the United Ways of California to implement 2-1-1 service throughout the state. 2-1-1 California's efforts are guided by the 2006 statewide business plan.
