The St. Mel Parish Justice and Peace Council recently introduced a program that provides for the needs of our brothers and sisters in the San Fernando Valley. It is called the Brown Bag Bunch.
The Brown Bag Bunch meets every 2nd Saturday at the Activity Center for a couple of hours and prepares 100 brown bag lunches for the MEND Center in Pacoima. These lunches are then delivered, refrigerated and distributed by MEND personnel and volunteers on Tuesdays to homeless folks. The sandwiches are meat and cheese on bread with mustard. Additional items include chips, cookies, fruit and a drink. This program is so successful that we plan to increase our production to 200 brown bag lunches.
MEND personnel reports that the recipients of these lunches are thrilled to receive them and hope for more. You can help! For a couple of hours on Saturday morning this blessed activity will also give you hope in your heart as you minister to those in need.
If you would like to participate in this ministry or start a Brown Bag Bunch for another worthy location, please contact the Justice and Peace Council at any of the following numbers or email addresses:
